Marlboro Hot Laps

June 26, 2007

This was such a fun day for me. I had the opportunity to ride in a couple of different cars... one being a Mustang GT and the other a Panzo GT-S.

We got to BeaverRun Motorsports Complex at approximately 1230pm and got checked in right away. First thing we did (after parking the car) was to head up to the Marlboro tent and get all of our stuff. They gave us a back pack to hold our personal items in among other things that I have shown at the bottom of the page.

The weather was extremely hot and we had to wear full race gear. The one piece suit was real hot but it was necessary to ride in the Panzo GT-S. They gave us gloves and a thingy that you put over your head.. a head sock maybe it was called..I don't remember exactally.

So they gave us all the necessary gear and we took some pictures while we waited for our "Team" to be called. Once our Team was called we heard several different people talk about the track we were at and the cars as well as some of the drivers that we'd be meeing today. That took all of 10 or 15 min. but before we knew it we were on deck to hop in the Panzo and go for a ride of a life time.

The track we were on was aproximately 1.6miles road course and it was so neat to see the track just turn with the natural hills. It was so cool to be right there and see the cars going so fast around each turn but then to get the chance to ride in one. WOW it was just awsome. We took 2 Laps around the track which seemed to go by so quickly. I was so nervous getting in the car and so afraid of what was going to happen. Really being in a car that goes that fast to me is amazing. However I had such a fun time and didn't panic at all like I thought I would.

Once my Team had finished taking turns in the cars we moved on to the Mustangs.. this is the part I was really waiting for. For the mustang ride we didn't have to wear the one piece suit thank goodness. I was hot and sticky I almost couldn't stand it anymore.

So once again we wait on someone to call our numbers, get a helmet on and off we go. Drifting.... sliding all over the place feeling as though the car could turn over at any second.... or as you hit a turn you see another car coming at you because you're driver almost turned your car all the way around. That was so exciting. What else that I thought was so awsome was that I had a female driver and man can that chick drive ! I watched her once I was done with my ride and she seemed to be all over the place. It was just great!

Finally we all went to the last stop which was a dining room like area. An air conditioned tent.. go figure. They gave us a picture that was taken early in the day and some of the best food I have ever had at any event !

I did notice 1 thing that I thought was kind of odd... of all  the items they gave us nothing at all said Marlboro on it. Not 1 little thing. Glad I kept a napking.

I hope the pictures are enjoyable, at the top are the cars and such we got to ride in and the bottom is all the cool stuff they gave us.

All Geared Up- Missy - Did I mention that I felt like an Astronaut in that suit ?

All Geared Up- Barry

Formula 1 race car- Missy.

Packed In a Sardine Can- Barry in the Formula 1 race car

Panzo GT-S

Mustang GT

Within 2 laps around the track all you could smell was rubber from the tires.

Sliddin

I think that proably every 6 - 10 laps around the track the cars had to have new tires.

SMOKIN' - Check out the front tires on this car.

Just one of the Tractor Trailers that was there.

And more smokin' and more slidin and more fun.

Doesn't that food look GREAT !

Noted the fuel that went in to the cars while we were there also.

Name tag with the size helmet that I wore and the number give to me so I'd know when it was my turn.

Back Pack, Ciggarette Extinguisher, and Zippo Lighter

Gloves and umm sock thingy ?

Back of mah name tag.

Rode Shotgun With the Pros ! - Nice huh ?

Of course I always load up on things to rember my trips. So I snagged a napkin and the books were give to us with various facts about the cars, track and the drivers.

To enter the parking lot this had to be displayed on the rearview mirror.
